Custom Software Delivery, Migration and Ownership

Plan requirements, design, development, testing, data migration, source handover and launch for a custom software project.

From the current process to a working application.

01

Map the work

Document the process, roles, records and connections.

02

Build and review

Review the interface and a complete example workflow.

03

Test and migrate

Check permissions, recovery and the opening records.

04

Launch and hand over

Deploy the approved release with operating instructions.

Describe one complete business transaction

Start with the trigger and end with the accepted result. Identify records, approvals, exceptions and existing tools. Use anonymized examples of the documents your team handles.

Include volume, peak usage, locations, currencies, languages and connectivity conditions. Name the person approving the workflow and any specialist reviewing calculations or policy.

Write the integration brief

List the product name, edition, account owner and records that need to move. State which system creates each record and controls each field. Confirm available access before pricing the connection.

Specify how repeated notifications, rejected fields, changed records and expired authorization will be handled. A test should follow the original request through to one destination result.

Reconcile the move to the new system

Inspect sample exports and field relationships before setting the migration date. Test leading zeros, duplicate names, inactive records, attachments and foreign currency balances.

The cutover plan defines the final export time, import order, opening checks and treatment of work arriving during the switch. Keep the source exports and exception report.

Agree source rights and operating access

The contract identifies custom code rights, third party licences, data ownership and continuing fees. It names the owners of repositories, domains, hosting and external service accounts.

Handover can include source, build instructions, configuration inventory, database structure, tests and deployment procedures. Credentials move through a protected channel. An authorized maintainer rehearses the build and restoration.

Approve results against the specification

A booking test sends competing requests with one confirmed reservation. A migration test reconciles counts and balances. A portal test checks every permitted role against records and direct file access.

The acceptance record identifies the test, result and any unresolved exception. Launch follows the agreed approval. Software support hours, change requests and incident handling are documented before handover.
