POS Hardware Compatibility: Printers, Scanners and Tablets
Choose the software workflow and the exact hardware models together. A device should complete its everyday task on the proposed register, including after a restart or connection failure.
Write down the exact model and connection
Create an equipment sheet before requesting a quote. Include the manufacturer, model, operating system, connection type, power supply and who will support it. Keep photographs of labels and ports with the sheet. Similar product names can refer to devices with different interfaces.
For an existing counter, measure the available space and cable routes. Confirm whether the operator can scan, see the basket and reach the printer without moving equipment during a sale. Include the customer display and any power backup in the layout.
| Equipment | Record before testing |
|---|---|
| Register | Model, operating system, browser or installed app version |
| Receipt printer | Exact model, paper width, USB, network or Bluetooth interface |
| Scanner | Barcode formats, connection mode and keyboard behaviour |
| Cash drawer | Opening method, cable connection and manual access policy |
| Network and power | Router, wired connection, backup power and recovery procedure |
Print a receipt that exposes formatting problems
Use a long product description, several quantities, a discount, a tax line and a foreign currency code. Inspect the printed result for clipped columns, tiny text and missing symbols. Reprint the same receipt and check that the application records it as a copy.
Test printer recovery after paper runs out and after a restart. Ask what happens to a queued receipt when the printer reconnects. A successful print from a desktop document does not establish automatic receipt printing from the POS.
Loyverse maintains a supported printer list that distinguishes devices and connection types. Use the corresponding compatibility documentation for whichever application you are buying.
Scan the difficult labels
Bring a leading zero barcode, a long code, two similar products and a label that has been printed at the size used in your store. Scan the same item repeatedly, then scan a different item without touching the screen. Confirm which field receives the code.
Check how the system handles an unknown barcode and whether staff can select the wrong variation of a product. A usable counter workflow should make the item, quantity and price clear before payment. Any scales or specialist devices require their own acceptance test.
Keep the equipment test with the purchase agreement
Record the device model, software version, test date, result and person who approved each item. Include replacement terms and a contact for trading hours. Agree whether the supplier installs drivers and settings, trains staff and helps move the configuration to a replacement device.
For DSDillon POS, the current browser application supports product lookup and printable documents. Automatic printer, cash drawer and card reader connections need confirmation for the exact deployment. Send your equipment list with the project enquiry so that compatibility becomes part of the scope.
Questions before you decide
Can I buy any Bluetooth receipt printer?
Obtain a compatibility confirmation for the exact printer, register operating system and application. Test reconnection and receipt formatting before purchasing several units.
Will a barcode scanner work in a browser POS?
Some scanners enter codes as keyboard input. The exact device still needs testing for focus, barcode length, leading zeros and the end of scan character.
