Focus on what the person asks you to do
An emergency, travel problem or investment opportunity may be used to request money. Keep a separate record of the amount, recipient and reason given. Pressure to keep the request secret can make independent review harder.
A profile, photo or video call does not by itself verify someone’s identity or financial claims. If the conversation turns into an investment offer, verify that business independently too.
Submit only the relevant conversation
Paste the payment request or upload a redacted screenshot. Remove intimate material, addresses and identity documents. The advisor checks message patterns and links; it does not perform facial recognition, identify the person in a photo or access dating accounts.
- Pause before sending money or buying gift cards.
- Discuss the request with a trusted person.
- Keep the payment instructions and relevant messages.
- Report an impersonating profile through the platform.
If money has already been sent
Contact the payment provider promptly with transaction details. Preserve the conversation before blocking the account. Avoid sharing more information with someone who promises to recover the money for a fee.
